Agra is defined by the majestic Taj Mahal ' a promise of eternal love, that Tagore described as ' a teardrop on the cheek of time' . Yet Agra is home to many other stunning structures like the Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Sikandra, which are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra was for many centuries the most important city in the subcontinent, being the capital of the Mughal Empire. Its many monuments and ruins give visitors today a vivid glimpse into the grandeur and history of the Mughal dynasty. Agra remains one of India' s premier tourist destinations and forms part of the Golden Triangle, which include Delhi and Jaipur. Though an important centre for leather manufacturing and carpet weaving now, this town is always bustling with tourists, whatever be the time of year. Located in western Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of Yamuna it is about 206 km south of New Delhi.

Agra is the city of Taj Mahal, which makes it the most popular city of India. It is located near the River Yamuna on the northern state Uttah Pradesh of India, and is the most populated city of Uttah Pradesh with more than 1.5 million people.

In the famous epic Mahabharat, Agra was referred as the forest of Agraban, and the epic dates the foundation of the city to 1475 during the reign of R?j? Badal Singh. However a Persian poet named Mas'?d Sa'd Salm?n mentions about Agra in the 11th century. The ancient fort of Agra, Badalgarh, from the reign of R?j? Badal Singh should be somewhere near or on the present fort.

In 1506, Sultan Sikandar Lod? moved the capital from Delhi to Agra. His son Ibrahim Lod? also used Agra as the capital until he was defeated by the Persian King Babur. Babur was the founder of the Mughal Empire and he sent his son Humayun to capture the city. Mughal empire not only captured Agra, but also the largest diamond of that time, Koh-i-Noor. Under the dominion of Mughals, Agra lived its heydays between 1526 and 1658 and it was called Akbarab?d.

Muhgals were famous with their love of architecture, and the most of the fascinating buildings that one can see today belong to the Mughal period between 15th and 16th centuries including the three UNESCO World Heritages: Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehp?r Sikr?.

Jaipur, the capital of India’s Rajasthan state, evokes the royal family that once ruled the region and that, in 1727, founded what is now called the Old City, or “Pink City” for its trademark building color. At the center of its stately street grid (notable in India) stands the opulent, collonaded City Palace complex, which today houses several museum collections of textiles and art.

Rajasthan's beautiful Pink City Jaipur, was the stronghold of a clan of rulers whose three hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink City because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city, Jaipur's bazaars sell embroidered leather shoes, blue pottery, tie and dye scarves and other exotic wares. Western Rajasthan itself forms a convenient circuit, in the heart of the Thar desert which has shaped its history, lifestyles and architecture.

Founded in AD 1727 by Sawai Jaisingh II, Jaipur the capital of Rajasthan is popularly known as the Pink City with broad avenues and spacious gardens. The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is steeped in history and culture. Here the past comes alive in magnificent forts and palaces, blushed pink, where once lived the maharajas. The bustling bazaars of Jaipur, famous for Rajasthani jewellery, fabric and shoes, possess a timeless quality and are surely a treasure-trove for the shoppers. This fascinating city with its romantic charm takes you to an epoch of royalty and tradition.

Jaipur has been laid according to the conventional nine-grid pattern that astrologers believe to be lucky, and which has been recommended in the ancient Indian treatise on architecture. Each grid consists of a square, and these have been planned so that, at the heart of the city is the City Palace. Spread around it, in rows, are public buildings, the residences of noblemen, the living and trading quarters of merchants and artisans. Straight, wide roads run through the city, while a high, crenellated wall that forms its defense is pierced with seven gateways that serve as entry points. Today, these walls may be more difficult to spot since the city has grown far beyond its original plan, but they are still there, proof that though Jaipur saw no great siege, it was more than adequately prepared for it.
